The New Proposed Globe and Mail Office at Front and Spadina

The Globe and Mail has made public a plan to redevelop their site at 444 Front Street west of Spadina Avenue, which will include the construction of a new headquarters at the corner of Front and Spadina where a Toyota delearship currently stands.
The Globe will sever this parcel from the bulk of their lot to build an 18-storey office tower, designed by KPMB Architects. The building will be designed to LEED Gold standards and employ many green features. While the Globe offices will take up the six-storey podium, other tenants will be sought for the tower with the intention that the building be a hub for the media and related industries.
UrbanToronto member FrankR attended a local community meeting about the 480,000 square foot proposal and reports that a new north/south road will be built west of the office building for access, parking, and loading. The road will presumably to connect to Wellington Avenue, and to some land retained for new green space on the site. The building is scheduled to open in late 2015.

They have really started to develop that area, I like the changes from Tridel Reve condo to Proposed Freed/Minto Development to the over path bridge. Front and Spadina looks to be one of the up and coming areas of Toronto, which once had little to no reputation.

Picasso Condos by Monarch Group - 318 Richmond St W.

An architectural work of art coming soon to Toronto’s Entertainment District

When Monarch Corporation and The Goldman Group set out to create something new and different in condominium living in downtown Toronto, they turned to an artistic icon for inspiration. Named for Pablo Picasso, who saw the world from a unique perspective, Picasso on Richmond will offer a fresh, edgy silhouette that pushes the design envelope, yet is grounded in timeless classical principles. Coming soon to the heart of the evolving Entertainment District, Picasso will take its place among many other iconic buildings, including the Frank Gehry-redesigned Art Gallery of Ontario.
To create such a masterpiece, the developers of Picasso knew they would need a special design team. Governor General Award-winning Teeple Architects was entrusted to design the building’s exterior – and the result is stunning. According to Stephen Teeple, “Picasso occupies one of the most significant sites in downtown Toronto. Situated at the foot of Beverly Street, and at the head of Widmer Street, along the north side of Richmond, the building will seen as an urban icon in relation to other landmark downtown buildings.”
The design is appropriately abstract. Teeple explains this architectural response to the condominium’s urban surroundings. “Floating cubic white volumes shift upward and are accentuated by a dramatic red cut that jogs around each building face. These forms extend from a 10-storey base that animates Richmond Street with three floors of high-end retail and commercial space.” The terrace and the roofs of the cubic volumes are planted with unique themed gardens in order to create a vertical landscape that Teeple calls “an abstracted reference to the natural form of a mountain.”
Teeple adds, “The completed condominium will offer a unique residential environment in downtown Toronto. Owners will have living spaces that project out over the city, retail spaces and amenities at their fingertips, and spectacular views for a highly cultured, sophisticated urban living experience.”
That experience begins in the contemporary open-air lobby, which recreates an art gallery ambience with light-coloured iridescent surfaces enhanced by flashes of indirect light. Attentive concierge service will be provided from this striking space. Picasso’s 10th floor is amenity heaven, with a chic party lounge featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that provide an ever-changing seasonal display as a background. This floor also includes a bar and lounge areas, billiards room, yoga and fitness studio, media lounge, dining room, spa and sauna areas. And just imagine continuing the party with a moonlit stroll on the spacious outdoor terrace, which has cabanas and a walk-up deck to a hot-water oasis – all in the midst of panoramic city and lake views. Suites will surround owners in luxurious features and finishes.
This coveted area represents tremendous value. The Osgoode Subway Station is only a five-minute walk from Picasso, which is also only blocks away from Little Italy, Kensington Market, Chinatown, St. Lawrence District, Financial District, Harbourfront, and many of the city’s best cultural, sports and entertainment venues.
Monarch Corporation and The Goldman Group are two of the oldest and most prestigious real estate companies in Canada. Over its 90 years, Monarch has earned a reputation for delivering outstanding homes in prime sought-after locations. Daniels Rent-to-Own Opportunites

We've recently been covering Daniels' latest boutique condominium venture, NY Place, located steps away from their NY Towers development at Bayview and Sheppard. Interestingly, NY Place will offer an innovative Rent2Own program, where prospective buyers without deep pockets can have the opportunity to finally experience the rush of condo ownership.

The Rent2Own program, offered in Toronto exclusively by Daniels, submits a portion of your first year's monthly rent towards the 5% down payment on specific units at the property. With only 8 storeys of units priced from the mid-$200,000's (or rents from $1,489 per month), buyers and renters will likely snatch up the units quickly: interested parties should register right away.

NY Place, designed by Michael Spaziani, will also offer an array of convenient amenities: a party room, fitness centre, and even the chic "NY Cafe". For those with green thumbs, NY Place will also offer a unique "Urban Garden Terrace", featuring garden plots and fruit trees where residents can plant their own herbs, flowers, and spices. Over the winter, resident gardiners will be able to take advantage of a Garden Nursery which can be used to grow seedlings or pot plants year-round. The Garden Terrace will also function well as a great social space for summer barbeques!

Concord Adex - Quartz Condo, Completion 2014

Like its namesake, Quartz is multifaceted. Different angles, different shapes. Layers upon layers with a consistent resonance that will transform the skyline as much as it will transform the lives of the individuals residing within the context of its walls. From the distinctive podium, to the soaring architecture of its tower, to the intricately layered geometry of its interior and exterior vernacular. Quartz is high frequency, high urban living with an elegance and attitude this is inescapable. Space and light that seem to go on and on forever. Authentic, unforgettable vistas, a wonderland of delicious amenities and, of course, a location that's as close as everywhere you'd like to be.
When you choose to live at Quartz, your front yard is an inspired eight-acre park, created and designed by world-renonwed intellect, author and artist Douglas Coupland and implemented by the highly regarded Greg Smallenberg of landscape architects Phillips, Farevaag and Smallenberg. The park is the living heart of Concord CityPlace. your place to unwind, relax, and have fun.
